n the composition of a CNC router, the guide rails and sliders provide both movement and support. They are critical components of the machine and essential accessories for its operation. Currently, the most commonly used guide rails are round rails and square rails.
In practical work, we often encounter situations where a customer's CNC router cannot move in a certain direction. After checking the electrical parts – the driver, the wiring, and the stepper motor – and finding no issues, we eventually discover that the slider on the guide rail has failed.
Seasonally, such failures occur more frequently in winter. Among industries using woodworking CNC routers, those working with MDF (medium-density fiberboard) tend to experience this problem more often. The root cause is inadequate daily maintenance, especially for machines that run at high frequency and in harsh environments. For such machines, it is essential to step up guide rail maintenance. Generally, you should perform a thorough cleaning of the sliders every one to two weeks. For cleaning, use non‑viscous diesel or gasoline – do not use grease with high viscosity, as that can actually accelerate slider damage in winter. After cleaning, apply an appropriate lubricant. We hope users will pay close attention to these points in actual operation to avoid unnecessary trouble.
